Stingrays Secure Luka Burzan for 2026‑27
The South Carolina Stingrays have officially signed forward Luka Burzan to a contract that will run through the 2026‑27 season, adding a seasoned scorer to their roster.
Burzan, 26, arrives after three years navigating the European hockey circuit, where he logged stints in Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark and Sweden, adapting to varied styles of play and emerging as a reliable scorer.
During the 2023‑24 campaign he contributed 23 points in 30 games for UTE of the Erste Liga in Hungary, a performance that helped the club remain competitive in a league known for its fast‑paced games.
His European résumé also includes a championship with the Odense Bulldogs in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen, where he helped the team capture its first ever Danish title, underscoring his ability to elevate squads in high‑pressure situations.
European Chapter
From the rinks of Surrey, British Columbia, to the arenas of Budapest, Stockholm and Odense, Burzan’s path reflects a growing trend of North American talent seeking growth opportunities abroad.
His time in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan with Kalmar HC added another layer of competition, as he adjusted to a different defensive scheme and contributed to the team’s mid‑table finish.
Draft and AHL Experience
Prior to his overseas adventure, Burzan honed his skills in North America, skating for the Cincinnati Cyclones and earning a sixth‑round selection by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
He has previously appeared in 34 AHL games with the Colorado Eagles and Cleveland Monsters, and compiled 74 points across 86 ECHL contests with Cincinnati, Fort Wayne and Utah.
Looking Forward
Coach expressed optimism that Burzan’s versatility will translate into increased scoring chances for the Stingrays, especially on the power play where his shot selection has historically been a strength.
Fans can anticipate seeing the forward in the team’s opening night lineup, where his experience and work ethic are expected to set a tone for the new season.
