Stingrays Secure Forward Luka Burzan for 2026‑27
The South Carolina Stingrays announced the addition of Luka Burzan, a 26‑year‑old forward, to their roster for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The move was confirmed in a recent press release, marking the player's return to North American professional hockey after three years abroad.
Burzan spent the bulk of the last three seasons competing in European leagues, showcasing his versatility across Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark and Sweden. His most recent campaign saw him suit up for UTE of the Erste Liga in Hungary, where he recorded 23 points in 30 appearances.

In the 2024‑25 season he moved to Slovakia’s top division, the Extraliga, playing for HK Dukla Trencin. The following year he joined Odense Bulldogs in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen, helping the club capture its first ever Danish championship.
Prior to his European adventure, Burzan honed his skills in North America, appearing for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL and logging time with the Colorado Eagles and Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. He was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Burzan also spent the 2023‑24 season with Kalmar HC in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan, further expanding his international résumé. Across 86 ECHL games with Cincinnati, Fort Wayne and Utah he accumulated 74 points.
Stingrays General Manager Jeff MacDougall expressed enthusiasm about the signing, noting that Burzan’s blend of size, work ethic and proven success in high‑pressure environments should bolster the team’s depth and competitiveness.
The club’s fan base can look forward to seeing a player who has tasted championship success abroad bring that winning mentality to the Coastal Division. With the 2026‑27 season on the horizon, Burzan is expected to compete for a top‑six forward role.
