Cottey College announced this week that Luke Huddleston will take the reins as the new head coach of its women's basketball program, tapping a coach whose career has been marked by steady growth and on‑court success.
A trajectory built on development and triumphs
Huddleston’s coaching journey began with a stint as an assistant at Missouri Southern State University during the 2025–26 season, where he contributed to the team’s preparation and player growth. Prior to that, he helped shape the program at Columbus State University, guiding the Cougars to a 21‑9 record and a second‑round appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Three of those players earned Peach Belt Conference honors, underscoring his ability to nurture talent.
His two seasons at Pittsburg State University proved equally impactful. Under his guidance the team posted a 23‑8 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Regional semifinals, culminating in the program’s first ever post‑season MIAA Tournament championship. Such achievements have drawn praise for both strategic acumen and character‑building emphasis.
Beyond the clipboard, Huddleston is a graduate of the University of West Georgia, where he earned degrees in Sport Management. He is engaged to Mikaela Burgess, and the couple plans to marry this summer, adding a personal note to his professional transition.
Athletic directors at Cottey College expressed confidence that Huddleston’s blend of experience and player‑focused philosophy will elevate the program’s competitiveness and community presence. The hiring aligns with the college’s broader goal of strengthening its athletic offerings while maintaining academic integrity.
Looking forward
The upcoming season will be a test of how quickly Huddleston can translate his proven track record into results on the court. With a recruiting class already in sight and supportive administration behind him, the new coach is poised to continue the momentum that has defined his career thus far.
