Franklin Regional’s Luke Williams capped his senior year with a performance that turned heads across the county. He batted .465, scored 33 runs, and stole 33 bases, numbers that placed him at the top of the WPIAL leaderboards in both categories. His speed and bat control helped the Panthers clinch a playoff berth, and his all‑around talent earned him the nickname of a five‑tool player from coach Bobby Saddler.
A season of milestones
Williams wasn’t the only standout in Westmoreland County. Connor Bergman of Belle Vernon posted a .500 average with 33 RBIs, while Dom Delio of Penn‑Trafford posted a 1.78 ERA and struck out 47 batters in 47 2/3 innings. Tanner DeStefano added a .418 average and 34 RBIs, and Anthony Grippo of Greensburg Central Catholic batted .580 while driving in 25 runs. Each of these players contributed key statistics that shaped their teams’ successes.
The road to the draft
Beyond high school, Williams will travel to Phoenix for the MLB Draft Combine scheduled for June 22‑27 at Chase Field. The event will give scouts a final look at the nation’s top prospects before the draft unfolds. While some of his peers are weighing college offers — such as Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, the University of Virginia, Penn State, and others — Williams must decide whether to sign professionally or continue his education at Vanderbilt University.
