AI‑Driven Training Takes Shape
A sleek, 35‑kilogram unit called the Lumistar Carry is redefining how basketball players train alone.
Four cameras and onboard artificial intelligence work together to follow a player’s movements, deliver the ball on command and dissect every shot for backspin, trajectory and release angle.
The system bundles a 10‑inch touchscreen for quick controls and pairs with a companion app that logs performance, generates heat maps and lets users compare their mechanics against elite profiles.
Coaches and programs can choose from preset drills or craft custom shooting patterns, while the device can simultaneously track up to five participants, enabling shared challenges and leaderboards.
All of this is housed in a frame measuring roughly 20.5 by 15 by 39.4 inches, requiring a dedicated court space and a power outlet, and it runs on gesture‑controlled passing that feels almost intuitive.
The prototype is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, where 414 backers have pledged more than $1.15 million, though the campaign’s timeline notes that final delivery dates and feature sets may shift as the project moves from crowdfunding to production.
