Week of Triumphs
Crosshill Christian pitcher Lute was crowned the Maps Credit Union high school boys Athlete of the Week after a standout performance that helped his team edge past Umpqua Valley Christian 7‑6. He tossed four innings, fanned six batters and contributed a run, earning 60.58 percent of the reader poll votes.
The nomination pool also featured Vinny Arnold, who captured the Class 4A javelin title with a 185‑foot, 6‑inch throw at the Oregon School Activities Association state championships, and Caden Druliner, who cleared 6‑6 in the Class 5A high jump. Both athletes demonstrated the depth of talent across the state’s track and field events.
JT Girod added a dominant pitching outing, completing all seven innings and striking out nine in a 4‑2 victory over Ridgeview, while Calvin Stewart finished runner‑up in the Class 6A high jump with a 6‑8¼ clearance. Braxton Singleton sprinted to a 14.47‑second win in the 110‑meter hurdles, and Creo Walker smashed three hits and scored four runs in a 14‑5 triumph over Monroe/Alsea.
