The ninth edition of the Lute Olson Fantasy Basketball Camp concluded this past weekend, bringing together former staff, coaches and aspiring players for a series of intense training sessions and competitive games.
Championship Overtime Drama
In a dramatic overtime finish, Team Bennett Davison and Donnell Harris outlasted Team Jay John and Salim Stoudamire to claim "The Belt," the tournament’s signature trophy.
The victory was especially notable because it was secured on Sunday afternoon at the Richard Jefferson Gymnasium, where Tommy Lloyd had earlier hosted coaches on Saturday and campers on Sunday.
Camp Venues and Community Reach
The event leveraged a variety of Tucson locations, including the Sporting Chance Center, the University of Arizona’s facilities, the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort and Spa, and the Frog & Firkin, showcasing the city’s diverse sporting infrastructure.
Organized by a coalition of former Lute Olson staff members, the camp featured mentorship from Jay John, Salim Stoudamire, Reggie Geary, Pete Williams, Matt Muehlebach, Joe Turner, Jason Gardner and Felecity Willis, providing participants with a rare glimpse into high‑level basketball strategy.
Beyond the competition, the camp served as a fundraiser and community outreach initiative, with support from partners such as NOVA Home Loans Volpe Team and Barrett Financial Group, underscoring the role of local businesses in sustaining youth sports.
