Inaugural 7‑on‑7 Passing Tournament Kicks Off
Lyman Hall High School in Connecticut is set to host its first 7‑on‑7 passing tournament this weekend, bringing together 19 squads from 17 high schools. The competition features a blend of CIAC members and a non‑CIAC program, Kingswood‑Oxford, giving the event a unique cross‑league flavor.
Among the participants are several teams that reached the postseason last fall, including the defending CIAC champion. The CIAC schools represented span the state, from Bridgeport Central and East Haven to Glastonbury, Haddam‑Killingworth, Harding, Lewis Mills, Lyman Hall, Maloney, Plainville, Platt, Rockville, Rocky Hill, West Haven, Wilton, Windsor and Woodland.
The two‑day format begins on Friday with pool play, echoing the structure of the popular Grip It and Rip It tournament. Afternoon sessions start at 1:45 p.m., followed by an evening session at 5:15 p.m., while Saturday’s double‑elimination bracket kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Results from Friday will seed the Saturday matchups.
All games will be played on the Lyman Hall campus and admission is free for spectators. Ryan Casey, a key organizer of the event, highlighted the community’s excitement and the opportunity for young athletes to showcase their passing skills in a competitive yet supportive environment.
Beyond the on‑field action, the tournament underscores the growing popularity of flag football in the region and offers a platform for emerging talent to gain exposure. With no entry fee and a focus on sportsmanship, the event aims to foster local engagement and inspire future generations of players.
