Maggie Dyer, a 5‑foot‑11 junior forward for Rochester Mayo, has turned her summer into a whirlwind of competition. Ranked fourth among incoming juniors in the state, she is already drawing interest from top Division I programs as she balances high school play with elite 3×3 events.
Her schedule is packed with daily gym sessions, AAU practices with the North Tartan 16‑under squad, and weekend tournaments that have taken her from Arizona to New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Chicago. At the Strictly Minnesota High School Girls 3×3 championships held at Minnehaha Academy, Dyer’s team posted two wins and two losses, and the squad finished fifth in the Chicago event despite entering as the No. 1 seed.
A Competitive Summer
The exposure has opened doors for recruitment; the University of Minnesota is among the schools courting her, and she has already visited the University of St. Thomas and the University of South Dakota. In the state tournament, Dyer averaged 18.3 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists per game, shooting 55 % from the field and 36 % on three‑pointers, while her teammate Amelia Mills contributed 21 points, 3.4 steals and 3.3 assists per game.
Dyer emphasizes that the grind is about more than rankings. She talks about the importance of hard work, teamwork and falling in love with the basketball process, a mindset that has helped her team reach the state semifinals and fuel motivation for future challenges.
