The Virginia Cavaliers have landed their first verbal pledge for the Class of 2027, a 6‑foot‑10, 260‑pound center named Mahamadou Landoure. The Mali native chose the university after a recruiting process that highlighted his rare blend of size, strength and soft touch around the rim.
A Global Journey to Charlottesville
Landoure's basketball résumé reads like a world tour. He began his senior career with Dar City in Tanzania, then moved to the NBA Academy Africa before joining Real Madrid's youth system in Spain. In 2023 he exploded onto the international stage, scoring 56 points and grabbing 33 rebounds in the championship game of the Minicopa Endesa tournament, a performance that cemented his reputation as a dominant interior force.
Next fall he will enroll at Bridgton Academy in Maine, a well‑trodden path for European prospects seeking to adjust to American high‑school basketball. After a year in Maine, Landoure plans to sign with the Cavaliers, where Coach Ryan Odom hopes to develop his raw talent into a consistent post presence.
Odom's track record of recruiting international talent adds context to the commitment.
