On a bright June morning, the fields of Mahopac High School buzzed with activity as twelve varsity programs took part in a passing scrimmage that has become a staple of the local sports calendar. The four‑hour session gave each squad a chance to fine‑tune timing, test new play concepts, and, perhaps most importantly, forge connections with neighboring teams.
Six Years of Building Futures
Now in its seventh iteration, the scrimmage reflects a growing collaborative spirit among Section 1 schools. Participants included teams from Arlington, Carmel, Fox Lane, Harrison, John Jay‑Cross River, John Jay‑East Fishkill, Lakeland, Mahopac, New Rochelle, Panas, Rye, and Somers, each bringing a unique style to the field while sharing a common goal of mutual improvement.
Beyond the drills, the event serves as a networking hub for coaches and players alike. Athletic directors noted that the face‑to‑face interactions often lead to future non‑conference matchups and shared training resources, reinforcing a regional identity that extends beyond the scoreboard.
Looking ahead, Mahopac will host two sessions of the Block & Tackle High School Camp, scheduled for June 30‑July 2 and July 20‑23. These camps promise intensive skill work, conditioning, and mentorship, continuing the district’s commitment to developing well‑rounded athletes.
