Ceremony Highlights Mentorship, Team Histories and Community Ties

The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame gathered at the Cross Insurance Center ballroom for a celebratory brunch, honoring its Class of 2026 with a blend of individual inductees and historic team tributes.

A Celebration of Legacy

Among the newly enshrined were Dave Ames, Nik Caner-Medley, Bobby Campbell, Gregg Cooper, Bob Davies, Nick DePatsy, Carrie Goodhue Ritchie, Nina Houghton Brown, Lynne McGouldrick Hasson, Kristi Royer Ouellette, Matt Arseneault, John Black, Tom Chard, Carroll Conley, Bruce Cooper and Deb Smith, each recognized for contributions that shaped the state’s basketball narrative.

Nik Caner-Medley reflected on the unique bonds forged with coaches and teammates, noting that many of those connections began on the court during games and persisted long after.

Dave Ames, meanwhile, praised the mentorship of Peter Webb, a pioneering referee whose own induction highlighted the intertwined nature of playing and officiating roles.

The ceremony also paid homage to two historic squads: the 1966 Cony boys and the 1990 Colby men, whose collective achievements were celebrated as embodiments of teamwork and community spirit.

Legends of the game such as Matt Arseneault, John Black, Tom Chard, Carroll Conley, Bruce Cooper and Deb Smith were similarly honored, underscoring the breadth of talent that has emerged from Maine’s basketball ecosystem.

Beyond the individual accolades, the event emphasized how shared experiences and lasting relationships continue to drive the sport’s growth, with many inductees citing mentorship as a cornerstone of their careers.
