Wednesday, June 10, proved to be a busy day for Maine’s high school athletics, as playoff contests in baseball, softball, and lacrosse unfolded across the state, delivering a mix of dominant performances and close contests.
Baseball Showdowns
In baseball, Buckfield cruised to a 10‑0 victory while Vinalhaven/North Haven were shut out, and Cony posted an 8‑3 win over Gardiner. Valley also secured a win, and Forest Hills completed the day with a shutout of their opponent.
Softball Action
The softball bracket saw Belfast claim a 5‑2 win, and Buckfield erupted for 15 runs in a high‑scoring affair. Temple Academy were held scoreless, Forest Hills added eight runs, Valley contributed three, Vinalhaven slipped to two, and Madison finished with a single run.
Lacrosse Results
Girls lacrosse featured Bonny Eagle surging to a 15‑9 victory over Bangor/John Bapst/Orono, while Cape Elizabeth posted 12, Scarborough 6, Yarmouth exploded for 16, and Lewiston/Oak Hill were blanked. On the boys’ side, Cape Elizabeth edged ahead with 11, Hampden Academy/Bangor 2, Gray‑New Gloucester/Poland 18, Morse 10, Scarborough 12, and Windham 11.
