Maine Nordiques Suspend 2026-27 Season Amid Financial Hurdles

Financial disputes with Mill Town Sports and Entertainment force the junior hockey franchise to forgo its upcoming campaign

The Maine Nordiques, a Tier III junior hockey franchise, announced that they will not field a team for the 2026‑27 season, marking a abrupt end to plans that had been in motion for months.

The club, which spent six seasons alternating between the Colisee in Lewiston and the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, cited an inability to lock down a reliable venue as the decisive factor behind the decision.

Financial Fallout

Shift Sports and Entertainment, the organization that acquired the Nordiques earlier this year, failed to reach a lease agreement with Mill Town Sports and Entertainment, the operator of the prospective arena.

Mill Town president Nate Bostic explained that unpaid bills and outstanding contracts factored into the breakdown, leaving the team without a guaranteed home ice for the upcoming campaign.

As a result of the lease collapse, protected players on the roster were immediately released, allowing them to explore free‑agent opportunities across the hockey market and seek new contracts before the next recruitment cycle.

Team owner Tyler Giwerowski, who has been vocal about the franchise’s ambitions, said the organization remains committed to finding a sustainable solution for future seasons and will continue to explore options to bring professional‑level junior hockey back to Maine.
