The University of Maine women's basketball program has released its 2026‑27 nonconference schedule, a plan that blends a robust home slate with a series of road challenges and a holiday tournament in Florida. The announcement underscores the team's intent to test its depth early in the season while building momentum for America East competition.
Home nonconference slate
The Black Bears will open the season at home against Siena on November 5 before welcoming a series of opponents on their own floor. Oregon arrives on November 13, followed by Brown on November 15, VCU on November 19, Penn on November 22 and Quinnipiac on December 6. Each of these matchups offers a distinct style of play, from the high‑tempo offense of VCU to the disciplined defense of Penn.
Road tests and a holiday tournament
After the early home stretch, Maine will hit the road for a series of games that begin with a trip to Michigan State in early December. The schedule then continues with contests at Merrimack, Rhode Island and George Washington later in the month. In addition, the team is slated to compete in the Daytona Beach Classic on November 27‑28, where they will face opponents to be announced.
Athletic director Jeremy Smith said the nonconference plan was crafted to provide a balanced mix of competition, allowing the squad to experiment with lineups and gain experience against a variety of opponents. "Our goal is to enter conference play sharp and confident," he added.
