Maine’s soccer community celebrated a double triumph as the Gatorade organization announced its 2025‑26 Players of the Year, honoring Finn Coburn of Scarborough on the boys’ side and Noelle Mallory of Cape Elizabeth on the girls’ side. Their names appeared on a list that also recognized outstanding performances across the state, underscoring the depth of talent in high school soccer this season.
A Season of Perfection
Coburn, a senior defender, anchored a Red Storm defense that never tasted defeat, finishing the campaign at 18‑0 and capturing the Class A state championship. His contribution extended beyond defense, as he added 11 goals and five assists, earning him the Varsity Maine Boys Soccer Player of the Year honor and a place on the United Soccer Coaches All‑American team.
Mallory, meanwhile, spearheaded the Capers’ attack with a staggering 30 goals and 25 assists, guiding her squad to an identical 18‑0 record and a Class B state title. The forward’s excellence was recognized with the Varsity Maine Girls Soccer Player of the Year award and a spot on the All‑American list, cementing her status as one of the most dynamic players in recent memory.
Looking Ahead
Both athletes have already mapped out their next chapters. Coburn will continue his education and soccer career at Bates College, while Mallory has committed to Middlebury College, programs known for their competitive women’s soccer traditions. Their arrivals on campus promise to add immediate depth and experience to the respective rosters.
