Makuei Riek, a 6‑foot‑6 guard known for his shooting efficiency, has officially joined the University of Evansville men’s basketball program, adding a new layer of versatility to the Purple Aces roster.
A Sharpshooter With Proven Range
During his recent stint at Salt Lake Community College, Riek averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 87.5 percent from the free‑throw line, 43.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
His ability to score from all three levels — post, mid‑range and perimeter — was on display when he posted a season‑high 26 points against Casper College, a performance that highlighted his capacity to create his own shot and exploit defensive lapses.
Collegiate Background
Prior to his junior college career, Riek appeared in 20 games for Fairfield University during the 2024‑25 season, where he reached a personal best of 13 points against Yale and earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors.
Coach David Ragland, who will oversee Riek’s development, described the newcomer as a talented guard who can both score and generate offense for teammates, noting his strengths in perimeter shooting and his knack for drawing undisciplined closeouts.
Why Evansville?
Riek said his choice of Evansville was driven by the staff’s vision and the program’s culture, believing it to be an environment where he can continue to grow both on and off the court.
The addition of Riek signals Evansville’s intent to bolster its offensive arsenal as it prepares for the upcoming season, with the coaching staff confident that his shooting prowess and playmaking will translate into immediate impact.
