Man Arrested After Violent Grocery Store Confrontation in Myrtle Beach

Raymond Jett and Edward McGill Face Serious Charges Following Cross‑State Altercation

A 60‑year‑old man from North Carolina was taken into custody after a disturbing assault that unfolded in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Raymond Jett had traveled across state lines to confront Edward McGill, the boyfriend of his estranged wife, after discovering a note left on McGill’s windshield. The two men met inside the store, but the tension quickly spilled out onto the asphalt.

Escalation in the Parking Lot

According to investigators, Jett’s presence provoked McGill, who retreated to his vehicle, retrieved a metal bat, and chased Jett into the lot. He struck Jett repeatedly, leaving him with serious injuries before bystanders intervened and managed to restrain the attacker.

Both men were arrested on the spot. McGill faced charges of attempted murder, while Jett was charged with third‑degree assault and battery, as well as three counts of unlawful neglect of a child related to the incident.

Following his arrest, McGill was held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $300,000 bond, and Jett was no longer listed in the Myrtle Beach jail roster.

The case has drawn attention to the dangers of cross‑state confrontations and the legal repercussions that can follow a moment of road‑rage turned violent.
