Arrest in Haverstraw Power Theft
A 39‑year‑old Haverstraw resident was taken into custody on August 23 after investigators say he removed two pieces of electrical equipment from the Manny Lopez Baseball Field. The items, essential to the field’s lighting and scoreboard systems, were discovered missing during a routine inspection.
Haverstraw Police quickly linked the suspect to the theft after reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. The investigation confirmed that the stolen components were part of the field’s power supply, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
Burglary and Grand Larceny Charges
Robert Hernandez now faces burglary and grand larceny charges stemming from the incident. Prosecutors allege that he unlawfully entered the field’s storage area and took the equipment without authorization.
Following his arraignment, Hernandez was ordered held at the Rockland County Jail while the case proceeds toward trial. The detention reflects the seriousness with which the community views the breach of public property.
