A Doubleheader to Remember
The Manistee baseball squad completed a decisive sweep of Muskegon Orchard View, winning the first game 18-1 and the second 8-0. The victories improved the Mariners' season record to 11-13 and underscored the team's potential as it heads into the latter part of the schedule.
Offensive firepower was on display in the opener, where Keegan Shannon contributed two hits and four RBIs, driving in crucial runs early in the game. Braylen Zimmerman was equally impressive on the mound, limiting Orchard View to no earned runs on three hits while striking out four batters. Adam Olson added a solid pitching stint, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and only two hits allowed.
The second game saw a balanced attack from Miles Joseph and Landin Sowa, each collecting two hits and an RBI to help pad the lead. Zimmerman again proved dominant, pitching four scoreless innings, surrendering only three hits and recording six strikeouts. Hoyt Edmondson closed out the game with a perfect inning, striking out three consecutive batters, while Shannon capped the effort with a perfect ninth inning that featured two more strikeouts.
Looking ahead, the Mariners will travel to face Traverse City St. Francis on May 13 at 4:15 p.m., a matchup that promises another test of their growing chemistry. Shortly thereafter, the team will compete in the Kingsley tournament beginning at 9 a.m. on May 16, where they will aim to carry the momentum from their recent doubleheader.
