Western Michigan University has announced the hiring of Manny Patterson as its new Director of Player Development for the Broncos men's basketball program.
A Strategic Addition to the Broncos Coaching Staff
Patterson, a Chicago native, joins the staff after a two‑year stint at Francis W. Parker High School, where he helped shape three All‑Conference selections and the ISL Player of the Year.
His playing career took him across Europe, spending professional seasons in Finland, Austria, Spain and Sweden, before concluding his college eligibility at Southeast Missouri State, where he graduated in 2021.
During his time at Southeast Missouri State, Patterson played under current WMU assistant coach Dustin Yoder, forging a connection that helped facilitate his move to Kalamazoo.
Beyond the high school ranks, Patterson also ran the MP Skills Academy, a training program that has become a hub for developing elite talent in the region.
Coach Kahil Fennell praised the hire, stating that Patterson’s blend of international experience and player‑development acumen aligns perfectly with the program’s growth objectives.
Fennell added that Patterson’s familiarity with the Broncos’ system and his relationships with existing staff will accelerate the integration of new recruits and enhance overall competitiveness.
Looking Ahead
Patterson’s appointment signals a renewed focus on holistic player development, blending on‑court skill work with off‑court mentorship as the Broncos aim to climb the Mid‑American Conference rankings in the coming seasons.
