On July 18, Mansfield Senior’s boys and girls basketball coaches will host the inaugural Tyger Park Takeover, a free community event that brings basketball drills and games to several city parks.
Playgrounds across Mansfield get a basketball makeover
The takeover will move through Maple Park, King Street Park, Johns Park, John Todd Park and Prospect Community Park, giving children in grades three through twelve a chance to practice dribbling, shooting and teamwork.
Coaches Marquis Sykes and Sierra Hardin say the event is about more than competition; it’s about building confidence, fostering teamwork and giving kids a safe, active place to gather.
Refreshments and open invitation
Water, Gatorade and popsicles will be handed out to keep participants hydrated, and the organizers stress that the event is completely free for anyone who wishes to attend.
By spreading the games across multiple neighborhoods, the coaches hope to reach families who might not have easy access to organized basketball programs, and they invite parents, siblings and friends to watch and cheer.
