A Golden Goal Ends the Eagles' Run
The 5A boys soccer championship match between Maple Mountain and Bountiful stretched into double overtime before a solitary strike decided the contest. The decisive goal arrived in the final minute of the second extra period, sealing a heartbreaking defeat for the Eagles.
Maple Mountain’s defensive unit held firm for much of the game, with standout displays from Wyatt Witt, Palmer Crowshaw and Ethan Antonito keeping the Eagles in contention and limiting Bountiful’s chances.
Coach Lincoln Snyder praised the squad’s cohesion and conditioning, noting that the team’s collective effort had carried them farther than many had predicted and that their teamwork defined the season.
The narrow loss was especially hard to swallow, given the numerous scoring opportunities created and the late surge that briefly threatened to overturn the scoreboard, but the final blow came from a well‑placed shot.
While the final whistle left the Eagles disappointed, Snyder emphasized pride in his players’ resilience and expressed confidence that the experience would fuel future success for the program.
