Alex Brown and Franklin Damron, both seniors at Marbury High School, have signed to play soccer for the University of Mobile Rams, bringing a blend of athletic promise and scholarly ambition to the program.
A Tradition of Excellence
The Rams have built a reputation in the Southern States Athletic Conference, reaching the NAIA national runner‑up finals in 2021 and 2022 and advancing to the round of 16 in 2023, a track record that attracted the two recruits.
Damron earned a full scholarship that covers both athletics and academics, while Brown received a merit‑based award valued at more than $68,000 over four years, underscoring the university’s commitment to rewarding talent in and out of the classroom.
Both athletes visited the Mobile campus multiple times, meeting with Coach Harris and Coach Bruce, and were impressed by the Christ‑centered environment, the coaching staff’s development plans, and the academic resources that align with their career goals.
Their relationship extends beyond the field; the two will room together in campus housing, sharing a summer workout regimen designed by Coach Harris to boost endurance, agility and ball control before the first practice.
Brown, who plans to major in cybersecurity, says his primary objectives are to grow as a player, earn a starting spot on the varsity squad and maintain a high GPA, while Damron, intending to study business, hopes to translate his collegiate experience into a successful entrepreneurial career.
The commitments also reflect a broader trend of local talent choosing Mobile for its blend of competitive soccer, strong academics and a supportive community, a factor highlighted by both coaches during the recruitment process.
Looking Forward
As the Rams prepare for the upcoming season, the new signings add depth to a roster that has consistently competed at the national level, and the university hopes their presence will inspire future recruits from the region.
