UNLV head coach BJ Craig has announced the hiring of Marc Ybarra as an assistant coach for the university’s men’s soccer program. The move brings a blend of professional experience and developmental insight to the Rebels’ staff.
Championship pedigree meets coaching ambition
Ybarra’s journey to the sidelines began on the pitch, where he distinguished himself as a midfield anchor for USL Championship sides Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Rhode Island FC. As captain of the Riverhounds, he guided the club to its first regular‑season championship in 2023, a milestone that underscored his leadership and tactical acumen.
Beyond playing, Ybarra founded Committed Soccer Training, a platform dedicated to elevating aspiring athletes and preparing them for higher levels of competition. His entrepreneurial spirit reflects a commitment to nurturing talent both on and off the field.
His collegiate roots run deep at the University of Michigan, where he served as team captain for three seasons, contributed to a Big Ten Championship in 2017, and earned Big Ten Midfielder of the Year honors in 2021. Over 91 appearances he recorded nine goals and 24 assists, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2021.
Craig highlighted Ybarra’s dual expertise, noting that his playing pedigree and player‑development work will enrich the Rebels’ program. “Marc brings a wealth of experience that will directly benefit our student‑athletes as they strive to excel as competitors and leaders,” Craig said.
