A Promising Arm on the Move
Marcos Paz, a freshman pitcher for LSU Baseball, has entered the transfer portal, signaling a search for a new program for the 2027 season and beyond.
During his rookie year he appeared in 17 games, posting a 9.20 earned run average, but advanced metrics painted a more encouraging picture, highlighting his ability to limit walks and hit batters.
In 291⁄3 innings he issued only 31 walks or hit batters, demonstrating command that stood out despite the high ERA.
His breakthrough came late in the season when starter Cooper Moore was sidelined, earning starts against SEC opponents and delivering a standout outing against South Carolina in which he surrendered just one run and one hit over five innings.
LSU coach Jay Johnson praised the youngster, suggesting that with continued development Paz could rank among the nation’s elite pitchers.
Nevertheless, the roster landscape at LSU grew crowded as returning veterans and new acquisitions limited his chances for regular starts, prompting the decision to explore other options.
Industry insiders expect Paz to remain within the SEC, with Texas and Texas A&M emerging as the most likely destinations, a move that would keep him in a familiar competitive environment.
His departure leaves a noticeable gap in LSU’s bullpen plans for the 2027 campaign, a loss that could reshape the team’s relief strategy heading into the next season.
