Marin Kotschau, a junior at Broomfield High School, has been crowned the Daily Camera girls soccer player of the year for the second straight season, a testament to her consistent excellence on the field.
She finished the campaign with 10 goals and six assists, bringing her career totals to 28 goals and 21 assists, numbers that have placed her among the most prolific scorers in Eagle history.
A Family Legacy Fuels Ambition
Kotschau’s rise is rooted in a soccer‑centric household; her father, Ritchie Kotschau, spent a decade as a defender in Major League Soccer, while her mother, Meredith Kotschau, shone at George Mason University before turning her focus to supporting her daughters.
Her older sister, Reagan Kotschau, transferred from Washington State University to the University of Colorado Boulder, where she continues to develop her own collegiate career.
The family’s deep ties to the sport extend beyond the backyard, as Ritchie often recounts how Marin and Reagan share an innate aggression and a natural knack for the game that few can teach.
Beyond club and high school play, Marin has committed to the University of North Carolina, a program celebrated for its 22 national titles in Division I women’s soccer, a decision that aligns with her ambition to refine her skills before heading to Chapel Hill.
This spring the Eagles posted a 9‑5‑1 record, only to see their playoff hopes dissolve quickly, yet Marin’s decisive strike in a 2‑0 victory over rival Boulder — a 30‑yard shot that sealed the win — remains a highlight of the season.
Looking ahead, she plans to sharpen her game in the coming year, eager to make an impact both at Broomfield and eventually in the Tar Heel State.
