Mario Charles has been appointed as the new boys basketball coach at Green Bay Southwest, bringing a fresh perspective to a program that has endured a winless stretch over the past three seasons.
A Fresh Start for Southwest Basketball
The team’s recent record paints a stark picture: a cumulative 3‑72 tally over the last three years and an average point differential of 28.1 in the final 24 games of the most recent season.
Adding to the challenge, the roster will lose its top two scorers, Zachary Diemer and JP Guinter, as well as standout rebounder Noah Schroeder, who is graduating this spring.
Only 29 percent of the players are currently engaged in the school’s offseason weight‑lifting program, underscoring the need for greater commitment from both athletes and parents.
Charles, who previously coached at several Green Bay public schools and in the AAU circuit, believes discipline and a strong freshman class can turn the tide in the coming years.
If the program can harness the energy of its incoming talent and foster a culture of accountability, Southwest may finally break out of its historic slump.
