Before arriving in Cleveland, Houston served as head coach of the women's soccer program at Nordonia High School for two seasons and guided the squads at Laurel School, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Aurora High School. His tenure with the Ambassadors Soccer Club lasted seventeen years, during which he also worked as a goalkeeper coach, shaping talent across multiple age groups.

Houston holds a USSF 'C' Licensed Coach certification and NSCAA Level 1 and 2 Goalkeeper Coach credentials. He earned a degree in Anthropology from Arizona State University and completed graduate studies at Cleveland State University. His service to the nation includes a commission as a U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant from the New Mexico Military Institute.
