A Hall of Fame Career
Mark Kieffer’s name has become synonymous with dedication on the hardwood at Rochester’s Mayo Clinic, where he spent three decades as a physical‑education instructor and an additional seventeen years steering the boys basketball program.
During his tenure, Kieffer guided the team to the state tournament in both 1996 and 1997, compiling a conference record of 264‑147 in the Big Nine and forging a reputation for demanding practices that pushed players to their limits.
The culmination of that journey arrived on October 24, 2024, when the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association welcomed him into its Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest Hotel in Brooklyn Park, a moment that brought together former players, assistants and colleagues.
Former standout Michael Restovich, a four‑year starter under Kieffer, recalled how the coach’s blend of relentless intensity and genuine concern created an environment where athletes felt both challenged and supported.
Kieffer’s mentorship extended beyond the gym; he raised his two sons, Jesse and Isaac, with the same principles of hard work, and his wife Cheryl provided steadfast encouragement throughout his career.
Even after stepping away from the sidelines, Kieffer remains a touchstone for many who remember his rigorous approach and the lasting relationships he cultivated, a legacy that continues to influence the program’s culture.
