Former Colorado Eagles head coach brings AHL triumphs and NHL pedigree to the NHL staff

The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Tuesday that Mark Letestu will join the franchise as an assistant coach for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen to the bench.

A proven AHL architect

Letestu’s most recent stint as head coach of the Colorado Eagles culminated in a 41‑20‑11 record and a Western Conference Final appearance, underscoring his ability to develop talent and guide deep playoff runs.

Earlier, his four‑year tenure with the Cleveland Monsters saw the team advance to the Eastern Conference Final in 2023‑24, a testament to his consistent impact at the minor‑league level.

From player to coach

Before stepping behind the bench, Letestu enjoyed an 11‑year NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets, compiling 210 points across 567 games.

He also shared the ice with forward Ryan Craig during the 2013‑14 and 2014‑15 seasons in Columbus, adding a personal connection to his new role.

Born in Elk Point, Alberta, Letestu honed his game in junior hockey with the Bonnyville Pontiacs before embarking on his professional journey.

General manager Kelly McCrimmon praised Letestu’s leadership, noting his familiarity with the organization’s developmental pipeline and his proven track record of success at the AHL level.
