The decision follows a turbulent off‑court saga that began with a temporary restraining order issued by Judge Brian Edwards, who granted Mitchell and several other former college athletes an additional year of eligibility despite the NCAA’s traditional five‑year limit.

Judge Edwards’ preliminary injunction, originally filed in a Colorado district court, was partially upheld before the NCAA paused its enforcement, leaving only those embroiled in state‑level lawsuits — such as Mitchell — to benefit from the extra year.
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, who has been scouting the market for the final scholarship slot, said the program would explore every avenue to secure the best talent, noting that Mitchell’s skill set aligns with the Wildcats’ aggressive playing style.
Mitchell arrives in Lexington with a solid collegiate résumé: he has started 133 games, primarily at Duke before transferring to Missouri, and last season posted averages of 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, having previously led the Tigers with 13.9 points per contest.
