Marsh Madness Finds a New Home
The Sugar Bowl LHSAA Boys' Basketball State Championships, popularly called Marsh Madness, will begin a new chapter at the Cajundome in Lafayette when the tournament opens in March 2027, ending a ten‑year run at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.
The Cajundome, home to the University of Louisiana’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, has been upgraded with modern amenities and offers a centralized hub that eases travel for teams and fans from across the state.
State officials and organizers cite the venue’s contemporary design and its ability to host Division I competition as key factors in the decision, noting that the facility’s recent renovations have positioned it as a premier venue for high‑school athletics.
Karen Hoyt, assistant executive director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, said the move reflects a shared enthusiasm for bringing the championship to a venue that can better serve the growing demands of the event.
The Lake Charles community, which hosted the tournament for more than ten years at Burton Coliseum, received a formal thank‑you for its stewardship and contributions to the championship’s legacy.
