Texas A&M University‑Texarkana has named Mary Chris "MC" Vogt as its inaugural female head coach of women's basketball, entrusting her with the program as it climbs to NCAA Division II and joins the Lone Star Conference.
A distinguished coaching pedigree
Vogt arrives after a decade at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, guiding the Ragin' Cajuns to a 168‑132 overall record and a 100‑73 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Under her guidance, the team captured the 2021 Sun Belt regular‑season and West Division titles.
Prior to her tenure at Lafayette, Vogt spent five seasons on the staff of Hall of Fame coach Gary Blair at Texas A&M University, contributing to the Aggies' 2011 NCAA national championship.
Athletics director Ryan Wall highlighted Vogt's blend of on‑court expertise and administrative experience, stating that her leadership will be pivotal as the Eagles transition to a higher division and a new conference.
Deacon Jones, who stepped down to accept a role at Louisiana State University‑Shreveport, praised Vogt's appointment, noting her deep roots in the region and her proven ability to develop talent both on and off the court.
