Quarterfinal Outlook
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association has announced the slate of state quarterfinal games for the 2026 baseball season, scheduling them for May 15 and 16 across multiple sites. The finals will culminate two weeks later, on May 22 and 23, at the iconic Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, a venue that has become synonymous with the state’s championship atmosphere.
Among the classifications, Class 4A enters the tournament with Broadneck holding the No. 1 seed, while Urbana sits at No. 4, and the defending champion Walter Johnson has already been knocked out, opening a path for new contenders. In Class 3A, Sherwood, a program that has captured four of the last five state titles, is seeded second behind Decatur, which hopes to halt the Warriors’ reign.
Class 2A brings back its defending champion, Huntingtown, who will meet Hereford in the quarterfinals, while Douglass‑PG, the top seed from Prince George’s County, looks to add another trophy to its collection. Meanwhile, Class 1A will see a fresh champion crowned after Allegany’s exit at the hands of Fort Hill, with Patterson Mill holding the No. 1 seed and eyeing its first title.
The concentration of talent and the stakes involved have turned the upcoming matches into a focal point for coaches, players, and fans alike, as each game promises a blend of tradition and emerging narratives that could reshape the high school baseball landscape in Maryland.
