The University of Maryland announced this week that it has secured the commitment of Jack Capaldi, a quarterback who transferred from Fordham University, to join the Terrapins for the 2026 season.
Capaldi arrives after a breakout year in which he started nine games for the Rams, throwing for 1,561 yards while also adding 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Coach Mike Locksley highlighted the player's dual-threat skill set, noting that the ability to extend plays with his legs could diversify Maryland’s offensive scheme as the team looks to rebound from a challenging recent stretch.
What This Means for Maryland’s Offense
Offensive coordinators are expected to incorporate more read‑option concepts, leveraging Capaldi’s mobility to keep defenses guessing and to open up passing opportunities downfield.
The move comes after Fordham’s starting quarterback, CJ Montes, suffered an injury that limited his availability, opening the door for Capaldi to see increased action in the latter part of the 2024 campaign.
Although Capaldi appeared in a single game during the 2025 season without recording a pass attempt, his prior experience and redshirt year in 2022 have prepared him for a larger role at the Power Five level.
