Maryland’s 2027 Recruiting Surge
Maryland’s football program announced a flurry of commitments in late May and early June, adding six prospects to its 2027 recruiting class. The influx comes as the Terrapins look to rebuild a defense that was ravaged by injuries throughout the 2025 season.
Among the new faces is three‑star safety Charles Roberts, who originally pledged to North Carolina but reversed course during a visit to College Park. Roberts’ decision was highlighted as a major coup for head coach Michael Locksley, who has been chasing the talented defender for months.
A Defensive Turnaround
Linebacker Shelvy Clark also chose Maryland over a competitive field that included Colorado, Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss and Florida State. Clark’s commitment was seen as a testament to the program’s growing appeal and its ability to attract top talent from across the country.
With eleven players now committed, the Terps’ 2027 class currently sits at No. 50 nationally, according to the latest rankings. While the class is still early, the coaching staff is confident that the momentum will translate into more highly‑touted signees in the weeks ahead.
Coach Michael Locksley emphasized that the recent pledges are part of a broader strategy to restore Maryland’s defensive identity. He noted that the program’s trajectory is gaining traction, and that the next few weeks could bring additional breakthroughs.
