The Maryville University Hockey Center will soon add a state‑of‑the‑art practice rink that reflects the look and feel of an NHL venue. The 26,500‑square‑foot addition, to be called the Kelly Chase Family Rink, will sit alongside existing facilities and expand the center’s capacity for youth hockey and community programs.
Designed to host three separate ice surfaces, the new rink will provide more ice time for local teams, youth leagues and recreational skaters. The expansion aims to meet growing demand in the St. Louis area while preserving a modern, professional environment for players of all ages.
Kelly Chase, a former St. Louis Blues enforcer who spent seven seasons with the club before transitioning to an 18‑year career as a radio color commentator, will be honored with the rink’s naming. Chase’s battle with leukemia has inspired many in the community, and his dedication to the sport and to youth outreach has been widely recognized.
A tribute from a Hall of Famer
Blues Hall of Famer Barret Jackman praised Chase’s selflessness, noting that his contributions extended far beyond the ice. "Kelly’s commitment to the game and to the next generation of players is unmatched," Jackman said, highlighting the lasting impact of Chase’s work with the St. Louis community.
Groundbreaking for the Kelly Chase Family Rink is scheduled for fall 2026. The project will be built on Chesterfield Airport Road in Chesterfield Valley, Missouri, a site chosen for its accessibility and existing infrastructure. Officials expect the new facility to be fully operational within a few years, offering expanded programming and a lasting tribute to a beloved figure in St. Louis hockey.
