Massachusetts High School Football Media Day Returns with Expanded Reach

Coaches and players from 20 MIAA programs gather to preview the 2026 season, highlighting new storylines and ambitions

The Massachusetts High School Football Media Day returned for its second consecutive year, drawing players and coaches from 20 MIAA programs to discuss the 2026 season. Organized by Alex Agrella, the event was held at Homewood Suites, where participants were divided into two groups of ten, each receiving a 90‑minute window for media interaction.

Representatives traveled from across the state, from Cape Cod to Western Massachusetts, showcasing a mix of defending champions and teams poised to contend for titles. The programs covered a geographic spread that included Needham, Massachusetts, and other regional hotspots, underscoring the growing footprint of high school football in the Commonwealth.

New Coaches and Fresh Ambitions

Central Catholic High School entered the conversation with a revamped staff, welcoming new head coach John Dubzinski while retaining key players such as quarterback Caden Smith and lineman Brian Waller-Reitano. Meanwhile, St. John’s Prep, fresh off a 2025 season that saw them reach the championship game, aims to capture the Div. 1 state title, having fallen short to rival Xaverian.

Xaverian High School, chasing its fourth straight Agganis Trophy, announced a new mindset focused on setting higher standards for the program. Across the board, teams emphasized aggressive scheduling and targeted recruitment to bolster their prospects.

The coaching carousel continued with Brian Lee stepping down after 21 seasons at King Philip High School, making way for Anthony Vizakis, who transitioned from an assistant role to head coach. Lee’s departure marked the end of an era, while Vizakis looks to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor.

Looking ahead, organizers plan to expand the Media Day in 2024, seeking a larger venue to accommodate more teams and broaden media exposure. The initiative reflects a commitment to elevating the profile of Massachusetts high school football and providing athletes with greater visibility as they prepare for the upcoming season.
