The latest edition of Newsday's high school baseball rankings crowns Massapequa as the season's top team, capping a dominant year that included victories in both the state Class AAA championship and the Long Island title game.
Championship Highlights
The team secured the Class AAA crown with a 7-1 win over Liverpool, then followed it up with an 11-6 triumph over Connetquot to claim the Long Island championship. Their success underscored a season defined by consistency and clutch performances.
Plainedge, the No. 2 team, entered the state Class A final with a 28-game winning streak but saw it end in a 5-0 loss to Averill Park. Despite the setback, the squad finished the year ranked second overall.
Bellmore JFK claimed the No. 3 spot after winning the Long Island Class AA title with a 9-3 victory over Hauppauge. The team's run continued into the state semifinals, where they fell to undefeated Cornwall, 5-3.
Other Notable Performances
St. Dominic entered the rankings at No. 6 after capturing the NSCHSAA state title with a 9-1 win over Nichols (Buffalo). Tyler Camastro-Szwejkowski delivered a two-hitter in the final, highlighting the team's pitching strength.
Long Island Lutheran finished the season at No. 10, earning its first NYSAIS state championship in program history. Matt Muzikant played a key role in the team's historic victory.
Additional teams featured in the top ten include Garden City, Connetquot, Kings Park, Center Moriches, and Clarke, each of which contributed memorable moments such as Garden City's narrow loss in the Nassau Class AA tournament and Center Moriches' run to the Class B crown despite rain‑delayed setbacks.
