Matt Beaty, a former Belmont University baseball standout, announced his retirement from professional baseball after five seasons in Major League Baseball, concluding a journey that began when he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2011.
Legacy at Belmont
During his MLB career he appeared in 305 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals, showcasing a versatility that earned him a spot on the 2020 Dodgers roster that captured the World Series title.
Beaty’s place in Belmont history was cemented when he became the first Bruins player to reach a World Series since Dwight Bernard in 1978, a milestone that resonated with fans and teammates alike.
At Belmont he held top‑10 career marks in hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and walks, and his 2015 season earned him Texas League Player of the Year honors while playing for the Tulsa Drillers.
Now he is lending his experience to the Royals’ rookie‑ball club in Surprise, Arizona, where he helps shape the next generation of talent.
His achievements continue to inspire current Bruins, who see in Beaty a pathway from campus to the big leagues, and his story underscores the program’s growing impact on the sport.
