Matt Hall Returns to Lead San Diego State Women's Soccer
Matt Hall has been appointed associate head coach for San Diego State's women's soccer program, marking his return to The Mesa after a two‑decade tenure with the men's side.
His coaching journey includes stints at the University of San Diego, where he guided the Toreros to a notable draw against No. 11 Santa Clara in 2024, and at San Diego Loyal SC, a USL Championship side he helped steer to three postseason appearances in four seasons while assisting two players to senior contracts.
From 2019 to 2023 he served as head coach at MiraCosta College, leading the Spartans to a 31‑6‑3 record in his final season and overseeing a program that produced three goalkeepers — Brian Barnes, Adam Allmaras and Tally Hall — who surpassed his own save records, with Hall’s 2005 benchmark of 88.9% save percentage still standing as the national standard.
A 1998 graduate in history from the University of San Diego, Hall recorded 213 saves during his own playing career at SDSU, a mark that was the program’s all‑time high at the time, and he now hopes to translate that legacy into mentorship for the next generation of Aztec women.
Off the field, Hall lives in San Diego with his wife Kelli and their two daughters, balancing family life with his ambition to elevate the women's program.
