A Fresh Start for Cabool Football
Matt Rogers has been named the new head coach of Cabool Football, taking over the program ahead of the 2026 season. Rogers, who lives in the Cabool district, describes the community as welcoming and supportive, a sentiment he hopes to translate onto the field.
Rogers arrives with five years of coaching experience, four of which were spent as an assistant with the Bulldogs. His tenure has given him an intimate understanding of the team’s recent struggles, including a single win in the previous campaign, and has positioned him to steer the program toward a more competitive future.
Key Returning Players
The roster features several key returners who will be pivotal to the team’s turnaround. Sophomore quarterback Ransen Kidwell returns as the starter, praised for his leadership, work ethic and versatility on both sides of the ball.
Backup quarterback Braydon Smith will provide depth, while the running back corps includes Briley Honeycutt and Lucas Hong, who are expected to anchor the ground game. Additional depth at the position comes from Steven Skyles and AJ Harro.
Defensive Outlook
At the skill positions, wide receivers Jeffrey Rhyne and Ryley Ryerson, along with tight end Steven Skyles, give the offense a balanced threat. The defense will be anchored by seniors Nate Long, Braylon Haywood and August Montgomery, who bring experience and leadership to the line.
The defensive scheme emphasizes a ‘bend but not break’ philosophy, aiming to limit big plays while maintaining pressure. With seven starters on that side of the ball, the unit hopes to build on Honeycutt’s past performance as a tackle‑making safety.
Season Opener and Goals
The season will open at home on August 28 against Miller, a matchup that will serve as the first test of Rogers’ system. The primary goal for the Bulldogs is to improve competitiveness against larger schools through smarter play and confidence management.
