Nevada has announced that Matthew Kinney will take the reins as its new pitching coach, bringing a proven record of development and strategy to the Wolf Pack program.
Kinney’s journey in college baseball spans more than a decade, marked by standout tenures at Southeast Missouri State University and Army West Point, where his units captured conference titles and consistently ranked among the nation’s best in key pitching metrics.
A track record of championship pedigree
During his time at SEMO, Kinney’s pitchers helped the Redhawks to two Ohio Valley Conference tournament championships and two NCAA Regional appearances, while posting a strikeout‑to‑walk ratio that placed them in the top tier nationally.
At West Point, his staff led the Patriot League in several categories in 2022 and contributed to the Black Knights’ regular‑season and tournament championships, showcasing his ability to translate success across different competitive environments.
A former standout at Belmont University and a graduate with a master’s in sport management from Florida State, Kinney combines playing experience with analytical insight, a blend he says will help nurture the next generation of Nevada arms.
Jordan Getzelman, Nevada’s director of baseball operations, expressed confidence that Kinney’s arrival will accelerate the program’s ascent, citing his knack for maximizing talent and fostering a competitive culture.
