Former NBA Mentor Brings International Experience and Proven Development Track Record

San José State University has named Maurice Riddick as its newest assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, slated to begin his duties on the 2026‑27 season under head coach Tim Miles.

Riddick arrives after a distinguished 13‑year professional playing career that took him to leagues in Brazil and Mexico, where he honed a reputation as a sharpshooting guard known for his deep‑range accuracy.

A New Era for Spartan Basketball

His coaching résumé includes three years as a FIBA head coach, stints at the elite Nike Americas Camp, and a seven‑year tenure at AZ Compass Prep, a program he helped transform into a national powerhouse.

During his time at AZ Compass Prep, Riddick mentored a cadre of NBA prospects, including TyTy Washington Jr., Jeremiah Fears, Javon Small and Jabari Walker, and oversaw the development of more than 85 NCAA Division I athletes.

A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Riddick remains a Bethune‑Cookman University alumnus and holds the school record for most three‑pointers in a single game with 11, a testament to his shooting pedigree.

He will join Tim Marrion, Ed Gipson, Jeff Strohm and Jack Townsend on Coach Miles’ staff, bringing a global perspective and a proven track record of player development to the Spartans.

The addition of Riddick underscores the program’s ambition to compete at the highest level of collegiate basketball, leveraging his international experience and NBA‑ready insight to elevate recruiting and on‑court strategy.
