A Strategic Commitment to the Future
Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new contract that keeps him in charge of the United States Men’s National Team through 2030, extending his mandate well beyond the immediate tournament cycle and signaling a long‑term vision for the program.
Since his arrival in September 2024, Pochettino guided the USMNT to a dominant group‑stage performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, finishing first in their pool and setting a new USMNT record for wins in a single World Cup. The team later advanced past the Round of 32 with a victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first knockout‑stage win for the side since 2002, before bowing out in the Round of 16 against Belgium.
Looking ahead, the coach will lead the squad into the 2027 and 2029 Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup campaigns, while also preparing for the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be staged on home soil. His staff will also oversee youth competitions such as the U‑17 and U‑20 FIFA World Cups, integrating development pathways with the senior side.
Beyond match results, Pochettino and his assistants are tasked with shaping U.S. Soccer’s long‑term vision, from youth coaching curricula to professional league collaboration. The initiative is bolstered by a philanthropic contribution from Kenneth C. Griffin of Citadel, as well as strategic support from Scott Goodwin and Adam Freede.
U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson and President Cindy Parlow Cone have voiced confidence that the extended partnership will help the federation chase Men’s World Cup titles and grow participation across the country, while also honoring the coach’s cultural impact on the player pool.
