Max Rice Returns to Boise State as Coaching Staff Member After Australian Pro stint

The son of Broncos head coach Leon Rice brings a blend of professional experience and local pedigree to the university’s basketball program.

Max Rice is set to begin his coaching career at Boise State, taking a position on the Broncos' men's basketball staff after a stint playing professionally in Australia.

The East Perth Eagles, the team for which Rice starred, posted a heartfelt farewell on Instagram, acknowledging his contributions and the 11.1 points and 3.3 assists he delivered per game.

A Family Legacy in Boise Basketball

Rice’s basketball journey began at Bishop Kelly High School in Idaho, where he earned three Class 4A first‑team all‑state honors and capped his senior year with averages of 23.4 points and 7.9 rebounds.

At Boise State, he appeared in all 32 games during the 2019‑20 season and helped the Broncos reach the NCAA Tournament in each of his final three years, culminating in a second‑team all‑Mountain West selection.

The staff reshuffle comes as Lexus Williams departs for a role with Minnesota, and Tim Duryea, the program’s offensive coordinator, announced his retirement last week. Rice is expected to fill the vacancy, bringing a blend of playing experience and familiarity with the university.

Boise State University, a long‑standing member of the Mountain West Conference, continues to leverage its strong local roots and national exposure to attract talent. The addition of Rice underscores the program’s commitment to developing coaches who have experienced both the collegiate and international stages of the game.
