Luciano Traczyk, a junior two‑way lineman at Mayfield High School, has already made a name for himself on both sides of the ball, playing defensive end and left tackle for the Wildcats.
A Summer of Sweat and Strategy
When the school year ends, Traczyk swaps his shoulder pads for a pair of work gloves, spending his summers alongside his brothers Nico and Mikey at Powerhouse Landscaping, a family‑run lawn‑care business that keeps the trio busy from sunrise to sunset.
That dual commitment to sport and manual labor has forged a work ethic that coaches describe as relentless; the physical conditioning from long days of mowing, trimming and hauling has translated into on‑field stamina that few teammates match.
On the gridiron, Traczyk’s impact was evident early; as a sophomore he earned All‑Ohio Division II honors after posting 58 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback pressures and nine sacks, numbers that speak to his disruptive presence along the line.
Wrestling has also played a pivotal role in sharpening his technique, giving him a repertoire of moves such as double‑leg takedowns that he now employs to shed blockers and make clean tackles.
After undergoing shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, he missed the bulk of the offseason but returned to the field as soon as he was medically cleared, a testament to his determination to contribute immediately.
He is not alone in his quest for dominance; the defensive line also features standouts like John Harris and De’Onte Worthams, and together they aim to be difference‑makers for the Wildcats this fall.
Coach Ross Bandiera has praised Traczyk as a true two‑way player with an ‘unbelievable motor,’ noting that the youngster ‘never takes a play or a day off,’ a quality that has endeared him to both teammates and staff.
The hard work is already paying off off the field as well; colleges such as Miami (Ohio) and Kent State have extended scholarship offers, recognizing the junior’s blend of athleticism, resilience and leadership.
Looking ahead, Traczyk hopes to continue stacking achievements, both in the classroom and on the field, as he prepares for a season that could cement his status as one of Ohio’s most coveted defensive prospects.
