Mayor Eric Genrich stepped onto the freshly finished field at Joannes Stadium, taking a few swings with a bat as a small crowd of city officials looked on.
The newly installed double‑tunnel batting cages, built with a mix of public and private funding, are designed to accommodate the Blue Ribbons Baseball Team as well as several local high school squads seeking year‑round practice space.
City leaders gathered alongside the Blue Ribbons to officially open the facility, highlighting the collaborative effort that made the project possible.
Community Investment Fuels Youth Baseball
The cages were financed through contributions from a range of local businesses and the Preble Booster Club, illustrating how private support can complement municipal recreation projects.
Mayor Genrich later practiced his swing again, noting that the Blue Ribbons serve as a gateway for many city children to discover the sport.
With the new infrastructure in place, organizers say the cages will not only improve skill development but also strengthen community ties by providing a shared venue for families and fans.
