Penalty fallout reshapes MBM Motorsports’ lineup
Jonathan Shafer and his crew at MBM Motorsports endured a difficult weekend at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, where both failed to make the qualifying field for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event. The team was cited for a safety infraction involving a shifter boot, a violation detailed in NASCAR Rule Book sections 14.2.3.6 A and B, prompting a $5,000 fine and a 25‑point deduction from the constructor standings.
For Shafer, the penalty added a 25‑point hit to his driver championship tally, leaving him at minus twenty‑five for the season, while the No. 69 truck sits with a cumulative 11 points earned across three races at Atlanta, St. Petersburg and Dover.
Looking ahead, the series will head to Richmond Raceway for the Black’s Tire 250 on August 14, a date that will see Dystany Spurlock take the wheel of the No. 69 entry after her debut at Dover earlier this year.
Spurlock’s participation marks a notable shift for the team, which has not scheduled any further Truck Series appearances for Shafer in 2026, ending his brief stint that began with three starts for On Point Motorsports in 2023.
